Local Search Tip Video - Using GetListed.org

For those video impaired here is a quick summary: On GetListed.org you can enter your business name and zip code and their service will search online through all of the largest local search listings. Google Places, Bing, Yelp, all the big ones. It’ll then return results that show you where you are not listed, where you are listed and unclaimed, and where you are listed and claimed. This is great because it shows you where you need to add your business. It also gives you the opportunity to ensure that your information is being displayed the same on all your listings. One of the most important things in local search are called citations. A citation is your business listing with your Name, Address, and Phone number – commonly referred to as a NAP. It’s very important that your NAP be consistent to help with local results. Search engines sometimes become confused and if you have a listing that has 123 Main Street and one that has 123 Main St. with it abbreviated they may consider that to be two separate places. This can lead to your link juice getting split up and that can have a negative effect on your results. My advice would be to check your local Google Places account and use the address exactly as it’s listed there. GetListed.org is easy and free. That’s your quick tip for the week.
